Teddy Bears

Welcome to our class.

The staff in the Teddy Bear room are Mrs Hornby the Teddy Bear Room Manager, Miss Rossiter, Mrs Kenny, Miss Parker and Miss Rowley our Early Years Practitioners.

Each child has been assigned a 'Talking Teacher' and this member of staff will spend a little more time each day working with your child and ensuring that he/she is happy and settled.  Please note however that all staff work with all of the children, getting to know his/her individual interests to plan and build on his/her learning.

We have celebrated Chinese New Year and have been exploring our sense of touch and taste.  We will be continuing with the theme 'Our Senses', sharing the story of 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' and encouraging the children to play different roles in our 'Opticians' role-play area.

As Spring approaches, we will be using our senses to explore 'New Life', setting up a shop with real fruit and vegetables, growing sunflowers and runner beans and sharing the stories 'Handa's Surprise' and 'The Enormous Turnip'.

Keeping our children healthy and safe is very important to us and we take part in daily physical activities both inside and outside. E.g. parachute, play, movement and dance with instruments.

We develop an awareness of the sun and road safety through lots of exciting activities, e.g. setting up a road play area with zebra crossings and traffic signs in our outdoor area, singing songs, reading stories and getting our class bear ready for the sun.

We encourage our children to become independent by hanging up their coats, selecting their own resources, toileting and washing their own hands and tidying up at the end of each session.

As we come to the end of the academic year we like to ensure a smooth transition into the Sunshine Bear Room by taking our children on visits to the new room and encouraging the children to share their feelings in small focus groups.
