Curriculum Vision

Townfield Curriculum Intent

At Townfield Primary School we strive to develop the whole child through our school values of resilience, respect and responsibility. We provide an education that enables each pupil to be personally fulfilled and become socially, morally, intellectually, spiritually and culturally integrated members of society.

We offer an exciting and challenging curriculum that is rich, varied, relevant and that reflects the unique profile of our school. The children benefit from a curriculum that is coherent and progressive, where there are opportunities for revisiting learning. Through our curriculum we enable pupils to:

  • Communicate effectively with each other
  • Learn actively both in and outside of the classroom
  • Have a growth mindset
  • Think deeply about issues
  • Take responsibility for improving their learning by responding to feedback
  • Lead active and healthy lifestyles

At Townfield, a full range of national curriculum subjects are delivered as well as BSL and R.E. In addition, we have a Music Specialist teacher. To find out more about these subjects, please visit the curriculum pages on our school website.

All children benefit from attending an extra-curricular club as part of their school day. All pupils have the opportunity to go on a wide range of different residential trips from Y2 to Y6. Throughout the year we have themed weeks, visits and visitors. Children in Foundation Stage take part in forest school sessions. Throughout 2020 and beyond, children from KS1 and KS2 will also have opportunity to take part in a series of forest school sessions.

Townfield staff set high expectations for all children and plan to ensure that there are no barriers to every child achieving. Progression of skills is measured against national curriculum expectations on a termly basis and presented in Pupil Progress Meetings. Any additional support/challenge is planned for where necessary
