Free School Meals

Wirral Council is urging parents whose children are eligible to receive free school meals to sign up, even if your child has a packed lunch.  Schools receive additional funding linked to the number of pupils who claim free school meals, which directly benefits your child’s education.  Our school meals meet nutritional standards by including high quality meat, poultry or fish, at least two portions of fruit and vegetables in every meal as well as bread, cereals and potatoes.

You can apply by visiting www.wirral.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals and completing an application form or by calling 0151 606 2002 (have you and your partner’s name, date of birth and National Insurance Number ready) or at any One Stop Shop. You can also apply by e-mail with that information to freeschoolmeals@wirral.gov.uk

Schools now follow guidelines as to how to sensitively administer the service; no child is singled out and schools are not told about the individual circumstances of children.  School meals are assessed by schools inspector Ofsted and have to meet strict rules on healthy eating.
