2S - Diversity Day
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
Today was Diversity Day.
We started the morning off with an assembly on British Values and recapped what British Values look like in our school.
Then we had a 'No Outsiders' lesson. We talked about the ways we can communicate with others and how we communicate with people who are deaf or people who speak a different language. We read the book 'What the Jackdaw saw' and then discussed how important sign language is as a way of communicating. We did some role play of the story and then we taught each other some of the sign language we know.
After break, we had a lesson about how and why the 'Pride Festival' came about and why it is important to celebrate and respect everyone regardless of their differences. We made a class 'Rainbow of Love' to celebrate our differences.
After lunch, we talked about racism, what it is, how it can effect people and why racism is never ok. We created bookmarks and wrote about our feelings on racism.
Finally, we went into a Year 1class and showcased what we had learned today.
