2S - PSHE: Risks and unsafe situations
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
We discussed what risks are and decided that a risk is when there is a situation that could be dangerous and put you in harm's way. We talked about why people take risks and decided that taking risks isn't always a bad thing; for example, firefighters and the police take risks every day to keep people safe.
We looked a range of different situations and whether we thought those situations were risky (and why) eg. playing unsupervised in a swimming pool, talking to strangers and crossing a busy road. We discussed how we could minimise or completely take away the risk in these situations.
We then talked about the meaning of hazardous and non-hazardous and linked this to items we might find at home. We worked as a class to identify and sort common household items that are hazardous and non-hazardous.
