RD - African Music and pattern (EA&D, Art & Music)

Lesson: Music

We have been reading a story called, ' Anna Hibiscus' Song.' Anna lives in Africa and we have been finding out about this continent and some of the countries in Africa.  We learnt that Africa has a wealth of patterns, everywhere you look you will see repetitions of shapes and colours, textures and lines laid out in all sorts of arrangements. It is a major form of expression, African patterns are popular as a means of personal decoration and a way of communication.  We look at different patters and recreated our own.  We also used the patterns to make our own necklaces.

An amazing dancer visited our school and taught us some African dance.  We had fun joining in and enjoyed it so much that we carried on dancing in the classroom.
