4R Lichen

Date: 12th Jul 2022 @ 2:56pm

Today we learn about 'lichen' in science. We discovered that Lichen will only grow on trees if the air is clean and there isn't any pollution.
We investigated if the air around TPS  is clean and if there was any evidence of lichen on our field. We found out that the air is indeed clean and there was lots of evidence of lichen on the trees.
The children really enjoyed investigating and observing and I am sure many will be looking for lichen when you are out and about on family walks.

Poet Visit

On Friday, 8th July, we were very lucky to have the published Poet, Andy Tooze come into our school.

He came and spent some time in our classroom to talk about how and why he became a poet. He chose some of us to come out to the front and choose one of his books. He then let us look through the book and choose a poem for him to read out. He was so funny, we laughed throughout the whole session. He can even make up hilarious poems really quickly.

Poet Andrew Tooze visited us today. He shared poems with us and inspired the children to write their own short poems.

Year 4's theme was "Body Parts" and the children had five minutes to generate idea's and then a further 5 minutes to write their short poem.

They were all amazing and different. Some poems rhymed, some had repeating parts and some used similes and alliteration.

We finished the day with a sharing assembly with the rest of the school and heard poems about animals, hobbies and family members.

Oliver and Matilda were chosen by the poet to share their poems in the assembly.

Kenya

We have had fun learning all out the houses, animals, schools and foods in Kenya. We drew enjoyed drawing Kenya's city and village and was able to compare them both. 4R Diversity Day

Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 11:49am

We started the morning off with an assembly on British Values and recapped what British Values look like in our school.

Next we had a drama session in the hall with Mr Chalmers and we had to role play how it felt to be treated because you may look different. The children really got into character.

Then we talked about racism, what it is, how it can effect people and why racism is never ok. We created a poster for this.

Next we talked about 'bullying' and why this is not tolerated. We watched a movie clip and each time we witnessed something wrong we had to squirt toothpaste onto a paper plate. There was toothpaste everywhere!! We then tried to put all the toothpaste back into the tube. We failed to do this. We realised that once you have said or done something it will be remembered forever and it can't simply be taken away. We learnt that bullying is targeting the same person over and over again and how this is an unacceptable thing to do.

After lunch, we had a lesson about LQBTQ+ and what the initials stand for. We also discussed how in the past people have been treated terribly for their sexuality and how this still needs to change, We discussed how important it is to celebrate and respect everybody regardless of their differences, The children made an origami paper heart and decorated it. They put a secret message in the back telling people to be happy and true to themselves. We swapped hearts with 4M so we have one to keep.

We had a fantastic day and learn how importance it is to celebrate difference.
