1B - RE - Which place of worship is sacred for Christians?
Date: 6th May 2022 @ 11:55am
The children have been exploring key areas of the church and artefacts, look at these and ask them to consider why they might be important for believers. They have looked at why an altar, cross or crucifix, Lord’s Table, bread, wine, bible, font, lectern and candles are important in a church.
The children had the oppertunity to work in groups to commplete a jigsaw containing information about the artefacts that they will find in a church and why it is important. Once they have completed the jigsaws, they had to share it with the class and tell them what each artefact is for and what it is important to believers.
Christian believer visiting Year 1 on Friday 05.05.22
The children then had to think about questions they might ask a believer about why a church is important to them. In smaller groups they had to carefully consider questions that they might ask of a believer. They brought their suggestions back to the carpet and as a class we shortlisted the best questions. They are very excited to meet our Christian visitor this Friday and to ask her their questions.

Topic - Animals Including Humans
During this lesson, the children had to become minibeast detectives. Firstly, they had to think of places where any animals/ insects live (habitat). They also had to consider these questions; How could we collect data? Can we predict areas where they may live? Why?
Children then went outside and worked in pairs to record information on a minibeasts record sheet about what minibeasts they found and information about their microhabitats. The children had to think about; Where they found the mini-beast? What were the special places like? Were all the special places the same? How were they similar or different?
After the minibeast hunt, the children came back to class discussed these key questions; What habitats did you find? What were they like? What were their features? Dark, dry, damp? We have all found different creatures in different places. Is there anything that is the same/similar about all the mini-beasts found in one habitat? Are they all small? All dark coloured? All wiggly? Has anything surprised you about what you have found and where you found it?

All children’s action songs require that children use their word understanding, learn new words and ideas, and at times manipulate words and rhymes. Children’s action songs are a fun musical way to teach and reinforce language, vocabulary and the understanding of words.

Grandad is having a wonderful time on the tropical island and has sent Tallulah the Tuscan with a letter for us. He has started to write a series of non-chronological reports about the island's tropical animals and has asked us for help as he has lost his glasses and is now unable to write anymore. To help us to write these reports we have been working on extending our vocabulary - using dictionaries to help us to write definitions and meaningful sentences.
