1B- Art Week - Gunta Soltzl

Date: 17th Jun 2022 @ 11:28am

The chlidren learnt all about Gunta Stolzl, a German artist who was famous for her textiles work (weaving).

They they had to create their sea/ocean back grounds (in pairs). Using a mixture of materials, fabric and wool, the children developed their weaving skills.

The children then used their sketch books to record studies of sea life using pencil crayons, chalk and oil pastels, which can then be created using fabric felt.

They then carefully cut, trimmed, positioned their sea creatures made out of felt and considered their final composition before attaching their sea creatures to their ocean background.

After their completed art work, the children had to evaluate their work and say what they felt about their art work, what htye found most difficult and what they would improve for next time.

RCD- Our trip to Wirral Country Park

Date: 16th Jun 2022 @ 1:14pm

Wirral Country Park

We had a fantastic day at Wirral Country Park.  On arrival at the park we walked down to the beach and explored the seashore.  We identified different features of the coastline and discovered cockle shells, mermaids purses and whelk egg cases.

After our picnic lunch, we had fun playing games on the field and then joined the Ranger to hunt for minibeasts.  We learnt how to sweep nets through the meadow and then all had a go at it.  We carefully emptied the nets into a tray so we could examine what we had caught.  We found crickets, beetles, flies and the ranger showed us some beautiful butterflies and moths.  Then we had a go at holding a flat net under a tree, whilst we gently shook the branches.
